The Earned Income Tax Credit has been a tax policy readily endorsed by both sides of the aisle. First introduced in 1975, the EITC puts money in the pockets of moderate to low income families who need it most. And it’s a boon for small, local businesses. Studies indicate that for every $1 of EITC income, $1.67 of economic activity is generated. In an age of grotesque wealth and income inequalities, raising the EITC in Michigan is a simple act of justice that also makes good economic sense.
Join SMSBF as we welcome Brandon Betz, Michigan League of Public Policy Tax Analyst and our panel of guests, to discuss the impact of raising the EITC on building equity and growing Michigan’s local economy at a time when it desperately needs it.
